Beauty Does Beast In Upcoming Movie

Twilight series icon Kristen Stewart stars in the new film version of On The Road by Jack Kerouac. This classic travel tale meanders across America with a jazz improvisation style and a thirst for freedom. As Jack himself explained the wanderlust: "Somewhere along the line I knew there'd be girls, visions, everything." It will take more than Stewart's chiseled beauty to measure up to this sprawling literary beast.

Director Walter Salles brought another 1950s travelogue to the screen in his acclaimed Motorcycle Diaries. Like Che Guevara, Kerouac prowls a vast landscape with his immense compassion only exceeded by his self importance. If the story can be done justice on film, this is the director to do it. Still, that's a mighty big IF.

Someone who looks a lot like me has been known to slur out at parties, "I love Jack Daniels, because it reminds me of good whisky." That could turn out to be the situation here. So, do yourself a favor by reading the book before you see the movie. Simply a flashback to this gnawing-hunger-for-space novel (combined with another gaze into Kristen's eyes) should be worth the ticket price.

  1. Actually, a gaze into Kristen's eyes is enough for me. I'll definitely watch this. But thanks for the idea :)

  2. I loved Motor Cycle Diaries - great book and great movie. I'll be watching the movie certainly, but I tend to prefer to watch a movie before the book - that way it can only get better ;D Shah .X

  3. As a Brit of a certain age, I suppose I should have read this classic, but I never got to it in my exceedingly busy teens or twenties. Perhaps I should visit this tale now. Certainly, your piece here has encouraged me to add Kerouac's classic to my 'to read' list. Thanks.
